We’ve lost 5 doctors, so don’t take COVID-19 for granted-GMA
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says it has lost five medical doctors as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
President of the GMA, Dr. Frank Ankobea who disclosed this to Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm admonished Ghanaians not to take the virus for granted because it is real.
He said ”we are the doctors taking care of you and have had our fair share of the virus and so do not take the virus for granted.”
He described the death of the doctors as worrying adding, more health professionals are contracting the virus at an alarming rate.
He appealed to the government to provide health professionals with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) the lack of it has been a major contributing factor for medical practitioners contracting the virus.
”We want the government to provide us with the appropriate PPEs. Our medical officers and health workers are contracting the virus. We need to protect the medical practitioners from the coronavirus. It is disturbing the rate at which they are contracting the virus,” he added.
Dr. Ankobea also admonished Ghanaians to wear their face masks instead of the face shields.
The face shields he noted are not safe enough and has the potency to spread the virus at a faster rate.
