We must stop comparing previous players to the current players, it is not healthy-Arhinful

Former Black Stars and Ashanti Gold player Augustine Arhinful has asked Ghanaians to stop comparing the past generation of footballers to the present and focus on the players we have.

Speaking in an interview on Total Sports Review on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said when it comes to the building of national teams, we cannot focus on one direction to get what we want.

”We should know that generations are not the same, so it will be wrong to compare one generation to another,” he told Rainbow Radio’s, Isaac Worlanyo Wallace.

” If a player emerges in a particular period and performs extraordinary, that does not mean players should be like him in the subsequent generations “, Mr Arhimful said.

He added that football is not an individual work despite individual brilliance.

”That is why we always have problems with our strikers, Asamoah Gyan is different from Majeed Waris, thus the comparison won’t aid the growth of Black Stars.

Mr. Arhinful said we should focus on proper scouting in order to select the best and skilled players for our national team, but not to compare players.

“Our major concern should be on planning, if we have a plan, we may not have the quality, but we can still get better results.”
