SDA Church shutdown churches, schools over COVID-19

The Seventh-day Adventist Church has closed all churches and schools following the directive by President Akufo-Addo for all gatherings, events and other activities to be suspended over the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in Ghana.

A statement issued by the Church (Southern Ghana Conference) said, all church activities including weddings, funerals, naming ceremonies scheduled within the ban period shall be rescheduled or planned to accommodate only 25 persons.

Meanwhile, hospitals and clinics remain open to the public and staff who are committed to rendering compassionate and quick services to the sick during this critical period, the statement said.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the Communication Spokesperson for the Ghana Unions of Seventh-Day Adventists Church, Dr. Solace Yawa Asafo debunked claims that the outbreak and ban on church activities was in fulfilment of bibl;e prophecy that, at the last days churches would be prevented from holding whereas bars and other gatherings would be allowed.

She said the directive by the president would go a long way to help contain the spread of the virus.
