Replacing late Hayford with wife is appalling, culturally insensitive-Lecturer
The Member of Parliament (MP), for Mfantseman, Ekow Hayford, was known to have been shot dead by some anonymous persons, and his wife, ASP Ophelia Hayford, has been appointed, by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), to replace him as the parliamentary candidate.
Speaking to a lecturer a Senior Lecturer at Kings University Prof. Kwame Agyenim Boateng, on his views on NPP’s decision about ASP Ophelia Hayford as a parliamentary candidate for Mfantseman, he said their decision, and the act, is contrary to our culture as a country, and Africans and it is appalling.
He further states that it is normal for the western world as the party in question would want to gain some sympathy from the constituency members for the parliamentary seat to be retained for the NPP.
Prof. Boateng emphasized that culturally, it is inappropriate for that act to hold and the family to accept the party’s’ offer is a bit shaking.
He also acknowledged that culture is dynamic, and it is not a bad idea as we, as a country, are learning the ways of the Whiteman, and politics in itself, is a different ball game.
Prof. Boateng finally says that it is not the level of education that determines a person’s success as a politician or be voted for and, so, it is after the election that it might be known either the people accept ASP Ophelia Hayford or not.
