A polio outbreak has been confirmed in Chereponi in the Northern region, the first in Ghana for over a decade.

A statement issued by the Ghana Health Service said a sample of the highly infectious disease was taken from a girl aged two years and eight months.

Describing the case as a “Public Health Emergency of National Concern”, the GHS added it has deployed teams from Accra to assist the regional and district teams.
