Our preparations to host All African Games not affected by COVID-19-Minister
The Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Isaac Asiamah has said the 2023 African Games will go ahead as planned, despite the coronavirus outbreak.
In a press briefing on June 3, 2020, the Minister stated that plans for hosting the multi-sport event have not been affected by COVID-19.
“Notwithstanding the negative effect of the COVID on the global sporting programmes, I’m happy to announce that Ghana’s preparations to host the 2023 Africa Games is on course. So far, there has been no indication of a postponement [of the games].”
Ghana was declared host of the AAG at the 3rd Specialized Technical Committee on Youth, Culture and Sports forum of the African Union Commission Minister’s session held in Algiers, Algeria last October.
The AAG is a multi-sport event held every four years with the competing nations coming from the African continent.
This will be the first time that Ghana will be hosting the tournament.
The 2023 All-Africa Games will also serve as qualifiers for the various disciplines for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
