Mahama promises Gold Board, Better opportunities for Cocoa Farmers
Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to restore the free fertilizer programme for farmers, that was cancelled by the NPP.
He has also promised to reintroduce the free seedlings for farmers to shore up cocoa production that had reduced from 967,000 tons during the NDC era to 700,000 tons currently.
Addressing a durbar of chiefs at Bopa in the Sefwi Akontombra District of the Western North Region, Mr. Mahama said will improve the lives of cocoa farmers.
He further promised to initiate policies and programmes to regularise activities of small scale miners.
He slammed President Akufo-Addo saying his approach in dealing with the menace of galamsey has been poor.
“We will institute the Gold Board just like the COCOBOD. The Gold Board will be in charge of all small scale mining activities across the country. Also, the board will support persons that have concessions but lack money with loans.”
“The board will also support miners who need excavators with one and will employ graduates from the University of Mines and Technology to manage the activities of miners. The employees of the board will help miners mine responsibly,” he said.
