Lynching of 90-year-old woman: Sorcerer arrested
The alleged sorcerer, Sherina Mohammed, who reportedly masterminded the lynching of the late Madam Akua Denteh has been arrested, an update by the police has stated.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested at her hideout at Yejiu Monday evening.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last Monday condemned the lynching of Madam Akua Denteh, the 90-year-old woman who was accused of being a witch, describing it as barbaric and unfortunate.
He further called on the police to arrest the offenders and bring them to book, adding that never again should such a dastardly act happen in the country.
The President was speaking at the inauguration of a GH¢5.66 million Small Towns Water Supply System at Yapei in the Central Gonja District as part of his three-day tour of the northern part of the country.
Already, the police have arrested more than 5 suspects.
This brings to seven the number of suspects in custody of the Regional Police Command as they race to bring the perpetrators of the gruesome murder to book.
According to the police, all the suspects admitted having invited the priestess to Kafaba where the incident occurred.
They are Haruna Aness – 34, Issifa Tanko- 35, Shaibu Muntala – 29, Sulemana Ali -35 and Issifa Zakyibo -32.
The police in an update on its Facebook page said “Sherina Mohammed alias Alhajia, aged 40 and being the sorcerer who masterminded the lynching of 90 year old Madam Akua Denteh, at Kafaba has been arrested at her hide-out at Yeji last night. She is in Police custody.”
