I’ve not received a penny from GHAMRO for the past 15 years- Ohemaa Mercy

Gospel musician Ohemaa Mercy has disclosed that for the past 15 years, she has not received a penny from the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO).

The musician says she got discouraged at the way the organization has been managed because she has not benefited from the organization despite being a member.

In an exclusive interview with Sokoohemaa on the mid-morning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, she said she felt discouraged and had not been there for the past 15 years.

She revealed, “when you go there for your royalties, they will give you a peanut”.

Ohemaa Mercy who appeared disappointed said GHAMRO needed a David-like leader to give the organization a new kind of leadership so musicians who are members will benefit.

“I have some misgivings at what is going on at GHAMRO. I have lots of problems with GHAMRO and how they have managed our royalties. For the past 15 years, I have not been to the office. I don’t even know whether they pay my royalties. I don’t know what is going on over there.

I became discouraged at the kind of information and response I get from them. You go there and you are told you have Ghc100 and Ghc200 in your account. It was discouraging. So I decided not to go there again. No one has called me and I have not received a penny from GHAMRO,” she added.

She stressed the need for reformation at GHAMRO because some musicians are not benefitting from their royalties as they should.
