The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Nii Parker has denied assaulting one Daniel Amakye Kingsford who had gone to the constituency to observe proceedings in the ongoing polling station elections.
According to him, he neither attacked him nor ordered people to do so as alleged by some individuals.
One person was critically injured while others sustained minor injuries at the Liberty Football Pitch in Dansoman during the acclamation of polling station executives in the Ablekuma West Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This was as a result of brutalities perpetrated by some party members during the exercise on Sunday, March 13.
Mr. Amankye Kingsford said he had arrived at the scene to observe the process but was not allowed entry because his name was not part of the list.
He explained he told the person manning the gate that although his name was not part of the list he was someone who had expressed interest in the upcoming party’s elections and will contest as First Vice Chairman.
But he still denied entry and claimed Mr. Parker ordered for him to be assaulted.
However, Mr. Parker has denied the allegations saying he was not even close to the area where the man was attacked.
He told Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Radio 87.5Fm that the victim came to the area to cause commotion and disrupt the process.
He said he never ordered people to attack him, adding, this is a cheap political strategy. He is planning to contest in the party’s process and wants to court public sympathy and so he is doing this.
He said there were witnesses at the scene. I did not push him. There were witnesses. This kind of politics is not the best. He (Amakye) pushed someone and the person also pushed him. So how can I be punished for something I do not do.
He disclosed the Police are currently investigating the matter and hopes the issue is resolved.
He further alleged that Mr. Kwakye and other persons are moles in the NPP and feeding information from the NPP to the NDC.
