I don’t see a coup in Ghana in the short term but our politicians must be careful-Adib Saani

Security analyst Adib Saani has averred that he does not think there is the possibility in the immediate to the short term for a coup to happen in Ghana.

He, however, noted that the threat of terrorism was extremely high in Ghana.

He was responding to questions as to whether a coup was possible to happen in Ghana as recorded in some West African countries including Mali and Burkina Faso.

Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said although he cannot state whether a coup was possible in Ghana, we do not have to be complacent, he added.

Adib Saani maintained that we do not have to kid ourselves in claiming that Ghana has preserved its democratic credentials and refused to put in serious measures to prevent a coup.

He was of the view some policies could trigger some of these things when the people are unable to beat the difficulties in the country.

He advised political leaders to be accountable to the people, transparent and avoid taking decisions that could make the people angry.

”You cannot be complacent no matter who you are. Our politicians sometimes think when they win power nobody can do anything to them. The day the people will rise against you,m you will regret it.”

He added political leaders only do things in the interest of their political p[arties forgetting that they have to rule in the interest of the country, and that is something destroying the country.

”This has made a lot of youth frustrated, and they are venting their anger. We cannot dispute the fact that there is anger in the system. There is so much anger, and our politicians must be careful. I pray that we do not have to go through a coup in Ghana because it will send us 30 years back. However, the politicians would have to understand that they should rule in the interest of the people.”
