High attrition rate is depriving Parl of experienced MPs-Fmr MP
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Offinso-South consistency Ben Abdallah Banda has stated that the high attrition rate is plaguing Parliament and depriving the House of experienced MPs.
The situation he lamented is undermining the effective role of the Legislature.
Speaking on his experience as an MP and what he believes could be done to reform parliament, he touched on the attrition rate saying it should be addressed.
In his view, Parliament could only be strong with the presence of key members whose contribution on committees helped the house, work effectively.
He wants a process that could help protect MPs who have gained experience and contributed to the success of the Legislature.
He argued that legislators who stayed longer in Parliament were better at helping the House function.
Meanwhile, he has advised MPs to have an exit plan when they are voted into the House so they don’t get shocked when they are defeated.
According to him, the destiny of an MP is in the hands of voters and they chose who to represent them.
He said if an MP gets lucky and is retained, they should not take the presence in parliament as a profession.
He spoke to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
