Heavy downpour: Odawna Market traders cry for help

Some traders at the Odawna Market have called on the government to offer them relief after they lost their wares to the heavy downpour Tuesday dawn.

The traders told Rainbow Radio’s Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi that they have lost everything to the heavy downpour.

According to them, they always confront this situation during the rainy season due to the failure of authorities to desilt the drains in the area.

A trader who deals in crates of eggs told the reporter she lost over 1,000 crates of eggs to the heavy downpour and will be out of business if she is not offered any relief.

Another trader said she has lost her capital to the rains and the only hope she is left with is a support from the government.

‘’We are also Ghanaians and we need relief from the government. The heavy downpour has destroyed our wares. We have nothing left. We are appealing for support,’’ a trader cried.

Some parts of Accra were flooded following Tuesday night’s rains.

The downpour, which lasted for hours, left several people in the capital displaced.

Some areas that were affected include Odaw, Avenor, Dansoman among others.
