GMA reacts to Coronavirus outbreak

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed concerned over the outbreak of the coronavirus.

It has therefore called on the Ministry of Health to strengthen its surveillance at the points of entry into the country.

”The Ministry of Health should strengthen the surveillance system at the points of entry into Ghana as well as within the country. We call for adherence to the various international and local surveillance guidelines and protocols in all health facilities, ports of entry as well as improved public education on the signs and symptoms of coronavirus infection at the community level.”

GMA also indicated that it would prudent for Ghana to reactivate the well-coordinated response like the one set up during the Ebola outbreak.

”There is the urgent need for the reactivation of a well-coordinated rapid response team like the one set up during the Ebola pandemic in 2014/2015. We urge doctors and other health care workers who were trained as part of that response team to immediately regroup and get involved actively as we strengthen our preparedness towards any possible case of coronavirus infection in Ghana.”
