Ghana Online Drivers Union to develop a local app to rival Yango, Uber, Bolts, others

The Ghana Online Drivers Union has hinted at plans to develop their own driving app to rival existing ones such as Yango, Bolt, and Uber.

The Union says they want to localize their services and ensure that they develop an app to address some challenges they have outlined.

President of the Union, Francis Tenge appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said they are looking for local investors to assist them to develop the app.

According to him, they need an investment between $5-$10 million for the successful development of the app.

He further appealed to investors to provide them with cars so they could give them to their members.

The rate of unemployment he added was high and online driving could be a source of employment for the unemployed tough.

He said it was about time Ghanaian investors take over the online driving business.

The existing ones he lamented are fleecing drivers with their fees.

He said drivers are forced to pay 25% charges on their sales before they even pay sakes to their car owners.

He also lamented the increasing rate of fuel prices, adding, the situation is affecting them and their livelihoods.

On his part, the chairman for the Pokuase branch of the Union, Patrick Odoom decried the poor working conditions they suffer.

He said they have no better insurance packages or risk packages doe drivers.

He disclosed members are forced to pay for their medical bills and other maintenance services on the cars they operate without assistance from the car owners.

According to him, they deserve better instead of the raw deal they get at the moment.
