Ghana can win World Cup-CAF Prez

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe, has expressed strong optimism that Ghana can win the FIFA World Cup.

He made the statement at a press conference in Accra today, October 21, 2021.

The press conference forms part of activities to end his two-day working visit to the West African country.

“Ghana has produced some of the best footballers in the world. This country has the talent and resources to produce a national team that can win the AFCON, but also win a World Cup,” Motsepe told journalists.

He disclosed at the media engagement that he was left heartbroken when Uruguay eliminated Black Stars at the quarter-final stage because he had so much confidence in the Black Stars, describing the team as uniquely talented.

He also expressed his support for FIFA’s desire to have the World Cup played every two years, instead of four.

“Side by side with the Super League is to have a World Cup every two years. African football must be put in a fundamental position to benefit financially.”

“I am very clear in my mind that one of the biggest beneficiaries of football every two years is the developing world.”
