Focus on intelligence gathering, swift application of the law & protection of human rights-Dampare told
Policy think tank Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI) has commended COP George Akuffo Dampare for his appointment as Acting Inspector General of Police.
However, the institute has reminded him of the insecurity situation and the need for him to make that a priority.
According to them, dealing with insecurity is a shared responsibility but the Acting IGP should understand that it is his job to maintain law and order.
In their view, he must focus on improved intelligence gathering, promotion of human rights, swift and fairness in application of the law.
The statement signed by their conflict analyst Henry Quaye further asked the IGP to engage in technologically driven policing, training of personnel in special areas in line with international trends, making good use of the available human resources in the service.
He also wants him to promote a police-public relationship, ensure the welfare of personnel, building confidence among the citizens by ensuring accountability of duty bearers, who act arbitrarily or capriciously, and reduce the incidents of corruption in the service.
