E/R: Seek permission before use of firearms & musketry at events-Council to Chiefs

The Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council has expressed concern over the usage of firearms and musketry at special public events.

The Council, at an emergency meeting held on November 9, 2021, arrived at some measures in dealing with the matter.

The Council held the emergency meeting to review the current security situation in the region, particularly the recent incidents in Afram Plains, Enyiresi and Suhum.

At the meeting, the Council among other things asked the general public especially our Traditional Authorities to respect and adhere to the Public Order Act, 1 994 Act 491,’ which is an Act to provide for the maintenance of Public Order and related matters and purposes; while the Council takes steps to intensify education on the Act.

It urged the general public to notify the Police of any special event in accordance with Section 1, of the Public Order Act, 1 994 Act 491 and to respect decisions of the various DISECs/MUSECs.
