Don’t take advantage of COVID-19 & increase goods unreasonably- Minister

The Minister of Fisheries Elizabeth Afoley Quaye, who is also the Member of Parliament for Krowor constituency in Greater Accra region has advised traders not to take advantage of the coronavirus outbreak and the quest by Ghanaians to rush for foodstuffs to increase goods astronomically.

Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Odame at the Nungua Marjet, she said any attempt to increase goods unreasonably would not be the best.

Some Ghanaians have over the past week rushed to various markets and supermarkets to buy in bulk to store at home over claims of a lockdown.
A visit to some markets has revealed that some traders were selling their goods at astronomical prices.

Garden eggs according to Rainbow Radio’s Abdul Majid was selling at GHc1 per one.

Reacting to this and other reports, the Minister called on traders to be circumspect and avoid taking advantage of Ghanaians.

The military has been deployed to ensure traders comply with the directive.

Reporting from the AMA headquarters, Nhyirba Kwabena Asirifi said the traders have largely complied.

The AMA Mayor Adjei Sowah was satisfied with the level of compliance
He assured traders that the markets would be opened on Tuesday.
