Domestic Workers to be classified as formal workers soon-Minister
Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Cynthia Mamlee Morrison has hinted of plans by the government to reform domestic work in the country.
The Minister revealed her Ministry would be partnering with the Labour Ministry to spearhead these reforms.
According to her, cabinet has given an approval for these reforms to be initiated.
The Minister speaking to Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said these reforms would allow domestic workers to be properly paid for their services.
Also, it would check the abuse and maltreatment of domestic workers, she added.
She said domestic work will soon be classified as formal work when all the processes go through.
She added people working as domestic workers will soon be recognized as formal workers. This new regulation is expected to come into force as soon as the Parliament of Ghana considers a bill to regularize the work of domestic workers.
