Covid-19: No need for panic withdrawals-BoG

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has advised customers of banks, savings and loans and other financial institutions to desist from panic withdrawals in the face of the coronavirus outbreak.

The bank, in a statement, assured customers that, banks and specialised deposit-taking institutions, shall remain opened to offer services to them.

The bank said it will continue to monitor developments in relation to the outbreak.

”The bank wishes to assure all of it stakeholders that it remains committed to its mandate and will take necessary measures to mitigate the economic impact of the current situation, to ensure financial; and economic stability,” the statement issued by the BoG said.

As part of interim measures, the BoG has directed banks to ensure that all banking halls, Automated teller machines, counting machines and other equipment are sanitised on a regular basis.

They also to ensure that staff and customers comply with the social distancing practice.

Critical frontline staff are provided with protective equipment and gear, for example, gloves and face masks.

The BoG further directed the banks to ensure all electronic channels are fully functional at all times and ATMs do not run out of cash.
