COVID-19: 779 health workers test positive
Information available indicates that over 779 health workers have tested positive for coronavirus.
Nine out of the figure have passed on after contracting the virus.
This was disclosed in a joint statement released by the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Health Services Workers’ Union of TUC Ghana (HSWU) and Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association (GHOSPA) on Thursday, July 9.
The health bodies bemoaned the high rate of infections among health workers saying it is of grave concern.
According to the statement, 4 medical doctors have died as at June 30, due to the coronavirus.
Also, 410 nurses and midwives have been compromised with one death recorded.
Aside from that, 156 members of the HSWU had also been infected with three deaths.
It said 23 members of the GHOSPA had also contracted the virus with one unfortunate death.
In their recommendations, they want the government to expand testing centres and their capacity throughout the country together with readily available test kits.
This they explained will stop undue delays in the release test results.
