Avenor Assemblyman re-elected Presiding member for AMA
Members of the newly constituted Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) have unanimously endorsed Mr Alfred Asiedu Adjei as Presiding Member of the Assembly.
Mr Adjei who was overwhelmingly endorsed on Wednesday at an inaugural meeting of the assembly polled 30 out of 30 ballot cast by assembly members representing 88 per cent to retain his position.
He thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and promised to collaborate with them to ensure that the vision of making Accra a smart, sustainable and resilient city was achieved.
He pledged to strengthen existing sub-committees, promote ethical standards as well as institute sanitation award schemes and regular visitation to communities to promote development.
Mr Benjamin Armah, Coordinating Director of the AMA congratulated Mr Asiedu Adjei on his election as PM for the assembly and stressed the need for assembly members to be time conscious and united to attract development projects to their communities.
The newly-elected PM was later sworn in by Rosemary Baah Torsu, a circuit court judge.
The occasion was also used to elect chairpersons of the various sub-committees of the Assembly.
The re-elected Presiding Member is a social worker with Absolute Community Network, a non-governmental organisation that caters for vulnerable women in deprived communities.
