Arnold is a disappointment, he does not deserve to be on VGMA board-Tsormanah

Entertainment critic Chris Tsormanah has described Arnold Asamoah Baidoo as a disappointment and one who does not deserve to be a member of the Academy member of the Ghana Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

In an opinion piece, Chris Tsormanah questioned why Arnold Asamoah Baidoo would question why his prediction of the Artiste of the Year, Sarkodie failed to win the topmost award at the ceremony.

In his view, his colleague entertainment analyst is part of the system hence his rants are rather exposing him as a man without integrity.

”Arnold predicted Sarkodie to win Artiste Of The Year in the recent VGMAs and it failed. In an attempt to defend his prediction, he’s been all over the place posing questions to the VGMAs system and the more he asks questions the more he exposes his lack of knowledge as a member of the Academy.

I also tipped Sarkodie to win based on the category definition but if Arnold really understood the definition, he would have left some room for surprises especially when he couldn’t predict who the Public would vote for. Mind you, ideally the Public votes for their favourites and not necessarily taking the category definition into consideration.

I’m beginning to wonder if he really knows what it means to be a member of the Academy. As stated earlier, the Academy is made up of industry professionals from the four corners of this country and each individual has one vote. If Arnold voted for Sarkodie under no duress, is he trying to tell us the other members had no right to vote for who they deemed fit?”

ARNOLD ASAMOAH-BAIDOO is a total disappointment and doesn’t deserve to be Academy member going forward.

The voting structure of the VGMAs is made up of three INDEPENDENT departments – Board(30%), Academy(30%) and Public(40%). Obviously the Public has a greater influence to determine winners in categories where all the 3 departments are required.

I’ll limit myself to the Academy, which Arnold happens to be a member. This group of voters include; entertainment journalists, presenters, critics and DJ from across the country.

One would have thought CharterHouse had learnt a lesson from past event in 2014, where Franky Taylor(academy member) revealed which artiste he voted for in the case of Bisa K’Dei and OJ over Songwriter Of The Year. After that unfortunate issue, CharterHouse should have put measures in place to check the conduct of members before, during and after its annual awards.

Any attempt to question the structures of VGMAs put his own credibility in question since he’s part of the system. I find his rant as an insult to other members of the Academy – does he know better than them?

Let me draw the case of Patapaa and Fancy Gadam in – assuming I’m a DJ in the northern part of Ghana and I hear his songs being played all over the place how then do you convince me ‘One Corner’ was more popular than ‘Total Cheat’?

Ghana is bigger than Accra so Arnold should tone down because he doesn’t know better than academy members in other part of the country.
