Former President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the next NDC government will establish a Gold Board to regulate and support the small-scale mining sector.
Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer of the party, announced this on Tuesday when addressed a Town Hall Meeting on the NDC’s manifesto in Kumasi.
According to him, the mandate of the board would range from concession viability, health, safety and efficiency in mine operations, equipment financing and mining input, research and standardisation, gold recovery optimisation and land reclamation services.
He further explained that the new NDC government will develop a national policy to restructure the small-scale mining and miners to undertake skills training in land reclamation as a required component of their operations.
This initiative he added is aimed at minimising the environmental impact of small-scale mining.
He also slammed the president accusing him of seizing concessions of miners and handing them over to members of the NPP.
He reiterated the promise by the NDC to r4etrive all seized concessions and return them to their owners.
