Disqualified independent presidential candidate Kofi Koranteng is alleging that President Akufo-Addo is behind his disqualification.
Mr. Koranteng was among 4 others who were disqualified for failing to meet the Electoral Commission’s (EC) requirements.
The EC had explained that “There was no I.T issue with his nomination forms. However, the technical team found out that the 19 persons who had allegedly supported the CPP candidate also supported him. A further check revealed that these persons had not endorsed the candidate. Indeed, the CPP wrote to the commission about the issue, indicating that these persons are Executives of their party. The technical team found out that the signatures of the 29 persons were fake. The matter was forwarded to the CID of the Ghana Police Service who confirmed that the signatures were indeed fake. The candidate was therefore disqualified and will not contest for the 2020 elections.”
But Mr. Koranteng says the president was involved because if he was not, the EC would have allowed due process to be followed in the process.
He alleges the president is influencing and interfering with the work of the EC and if the process was allowed to be fair, he would have qualified to contest.
Mr. Koranteng asked the president to stop influencing the EC and allow the electoral processes to be free, fair, and transparent.
”If the president believes this should be a democratic process, then this the time for him to show it. That is all we are saying. We are not asking him to win favours for us, we are asking him to charge the EC to do what they have to do.”
He also revealed he is considering a legal option but wanted to give the EC an opportunity to do what is needful.
He added his disqualification is so wrong and as a candidate, he would not relax until he is allowed to contest.
He challenged the president to do the needful if he belives in democracy.
