Organizers of KUMAWOOD Awards (KAAF Awards) has disclosed on Rainbow Entertainment that they have suspended organising the awards because producers are no longer making movies top warrant any awards.
Speaking to host DJ Slash CEO of the scheme Mr. Sam Darkus said for about three years now, I have not been organising the awards due to the ability of producers to make new movies.
He said as organizers, they are also business-oriented hence cannot be putting resources into organising the awards when there is nothing new to award.
To him, it would be better to divert his resources to other ventures due to the challenges confronting the sector.
The CEO was responding to questions on how the scheme determines the winners of the awards.
The Kumawood Akoben Film Festival Awards is an annual event to recognise and award the excellence and achievement of actors and actresses, writers, directors, producers, technicians and other personalities in the local film making industry of Ghana.
In the past, stakeholders in the Kumawood industry had expressed their sentiments about how their works were not duly recognised and as such, the scheme was introduced to honour them.
The last award ceremony was held in 2018 but the CEO says he has suspended the annual ceremony because the industry has not been producing anymore.
Popular names such as Agya Koo, Nana Ama McBrown, Emelia Brobbey and Kojo Nkansah (Lil Win) have received awards over the years.
