Amanfrom: Danger looms as residents use dangerous wiring systems to tap power from ECG main source
Residents of Mpraeso Amanfrom in the Kwahu West Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region ARE sitting on a time bomb due to the unprofessional means by which they have connected electricity power to their homes.
During a visit to the community to ascertain some developmental challenges in the area, Rainbow Radio’s Nanahene Agyekum discovered that the residents have by themselves used 2/4 smaller planks of wood and wires to tap electricity power from the main poles to their homes.
The residents said they did that because the main power poles are far from their areas, a situation that could soon result in a calamity when heavy rains and winds approach if the authorities concerned do not act swiftly.
The Odikro of the Mpraeso Amanfrom community, Nana Osei Kum, told Banahene that after the initial few power poles were mounted some 20 years ago to serve a small portion of the community with electricity, no extension has been done.
He said the situation had left residents with no option other than to use unprescribed means to extend power into their homes in the developing areas of the community.
He further indicated that the situation sometimes gets murkier and results in total power outages in the entire community amidst forcible disconnections of wires from the woods and power poles during wild winds and rainfalls, posing a great danger to residents.
He, therefore, used the opportunity to appeal to the city authorities and ECG officers to address the issue with immediate effect.
