AMA boss reassures business community of support

Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Mohammed Adjei Sowah, has reassured the business community of the Assembly’s commitment and support to promote trade and create an enabling environment to propel economic growth.

According to him, it is the responsibility of the city authority to collaborate with businesses to ensure significant progress in improving long-term economic growth, resilience and quality of life.

The Mayor of Accra made this known on Tuesday when a three-member delegation from the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GNCCI) – Accra Chapter led by its Chairman, Nana Agyenim Boateng called on him to strengthen ties to educate the business community on their obligations towards the city authority.

“The AMA is mandated by the Local Government Act 2016, Act 936 to engage market women, petty traders, other business entities and stakeholders in the fee fixing resolution to agree on the fee to be charged to create an atmosphere of peace and inclusiveness in its revenue mobilisation drive,” he said.

He also stressed the need for businesses in the city to stay complaint by acquiring business operating permits before commencing their activities and paying appropriate levies.

Nana Agyenim Boateng, who was accompanied by the Treasurer Kwame Boadi and Daniel Osei Torgbor, Regional Manager in his remarks recounted how the collaboration between the two would help the AMA maximise revenue.

“We want to collaborate with the AMA by participating in your core developmental structure to enable us to educate our members better to maximise revenue for AMA… Once our members are informed about what they are supposed to do, everyone will be more than willing to pay their rates,” he said.
