Acts of violent clashes on our campuses should not be tolerated- Prez

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned recent acts of violence at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana, Legon.

Violence on the campuses of the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), according to Nana Akufo-Addo, is unacceptable.

In August 2022, students from the two institutions got into fights, resulting in injuries and property damage.

“It is distressing to hear that, students’ activities which ought to be without violence end up in fights and destruction of properties. I am not quite sure who benefits from that kind of behaviour. Whatever issues there are, can be addressed by negotiations and dialogue for everyone to put their cards fully on the table. We should be able to find solutions to the problems and not resort to violence and destruction of public property.”

Twelve KNUST students were injured during clashes on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus in Kumasi.

They were later treated and discharged.

The incident also resulted in 12 damaged vehicles, according to the police. The 12 vehicles destroyed belonged to university employees.

A violent clash occurred at the University of Ghana, Legon, between rival halls Commonwealth and Mensah Sarbah Halls.

A bust of John Mensah Sarbah, which was located outside the Mensah Sarbah Hall, was reported stolen.

The Commonwealth, Mensah Sarbah Hall clash, the SRC Union Building sign board and newly renovated SRC notice board were also destroyed.
