Ablakwa launches Furniture and Footwear Bank in his constituency

The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has successfully launched the first Furniture and Footwear Bank [FFB] in his constituency, yesterday, December 31, 2021.

The project is targeted at having a Furniture Bank that constantly stores at least 5,000 pieces of furniture at all times and a Footwear Bank that makes available more than 2,000 varying sizes of footwear for kids of all ages.

Also, the project is a total all year round elimination of no furniture syndrome in public schools and ensuring not a single child in remote villages in North Tongu walk to school bear footed again.

In a statement to speak about the product, he wrote: “Had a successful launch of Ghana’s first Furniture and Footwear Bank [FFB] in my beloved constituency, earlier today.

It is refreshing to note that this has been largely a North Tongu local content driven initiative from the metal fabrication, furniture production and footwear supplies. I am enormously proud of Aveyime- based Amuga Metal Works, Borlor Shoes of Mepe and Dodzi Carpentry in Battor.

Of course, I am absolutely proud of our team of sharp, dedicated volunteers who mobilized footwear donations from the national capital, amounting to some 30% of total available shoes for no-furniture syndrome are eternally indebted to all donors.

I am happy to acknowledge Mr. Tonyi Senayah of Horseman Shoes who reached out on his own volition and pledged a generous partnership with our footwear component moving into the near future.

It is deeply humbling to establish that our model allows for North Tongu to now have a constant store of thousands of furniture and footwear for free distribution to those who need them all-year-round. The “no-furniture-syndrome” and the unacceptable sight of vulnerable kids walking barefooted to school would now be a phenomenon of the past.

Grateful to my hardworking team and all you well-wishers for the many accomplishments in 2021; with God on our side, 2022 shall be even more impactful.

Happy new year in advance, folks.”
