286 contracts awarded for cocoa roads, 177 through sole-sourcing-Minister
The Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr, Owusu Afriyie Akoto, has revealed that under the current administration a total number of 286 cocoa roads has been awarded for the contract.
The Minister stated that a total length of 4,465.89km has been committed for construction since 2019 with the cost of GH¢13.6 billion, the awarded roads are made up of 258 feeder roads and 28 trunk/highways roads.
Answering parliamentary questions on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, he indicated that the contracts span between 12 to 48 months.
According to the Minister, the entire review process and project preparation was done after several engagements and consideration with stakeholders.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto explained that COCOABOD ensures that procurement of road contracts adhered to the provision of the public procurement Act.
To obtain value for money and resources, COCOBOD is in collaboration with the ministry of roads and highways and its agencies for technical support and guidance to undertake the cocoa roads improvement programme, he said.
He added that per the guidelines and assistance of the department of feeder roads and Ghana Highways Authority, the procurement methods were used by national competitive tendering, restricted tendering and single-source procurement.
The Minister made these statements when the Member of Parliament for Adaklu, Kwame Governs Agbodza, questioned him on how many cocoa road contacts have been awarded since 2017 and the method of procurement used.
