Suspect in Police custody commits suicide

A 48-year old suspect in Police custody at Kyeremasu, Solomon Kyere, has allegedly committed suicide.

He was found dead in his cell at the town’s police station.

The suspect was held at the kyeremasu Police Station for the offences of threat of harm and assault.

He was detained after he was invited by the Police for questioning on July 27, 2022.

He is reported to have died on July 28, 2022 at about 11:00 hours.

His body was reportedly found hanging from the iron bars at the vent of the cell washroom.

He is said to have tied his neck with a nylon singlet he wore while in custody.

He was found by General Constable Abdulai Iddrisu Mohammed of the Keyeremasu Police Station, counter NCO who was on duty.

With the assistance of Inspector Joseph Danso and General Constable Joseph Naaman, they rushed the deceased to the Presbyterian Health Center at Kyeremasu.

However, they were referred to the Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa Ahenkro where he was pronounced clinically dead.

The mortal remains of Kyere has since been deposited at the Presbyterian Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

The Police have started probing the matter.
