The Kaneshie Divisional Police Command in the Greater Accra Region has arrested a storekeeper at Abossey Okai for assaulting and damaging the mobile phone of a journalist with Rainbow Radio International, Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi.
Five others who supported the storekeeper in manhandling the journalist are at large.
The car battery seller was arrested on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, and is currently assisting police in their investigations.
Rainbow Radio’s roving reporter was assaulted and had his mobile phone device damaged by some traders at Abossey Okai on Tuesday, May 24, 2022.
He had gone to the area to report on the flooding situation after the heavy downpour which flooded some parts of Accra, including Abossey Okai.
Narrating his ordeal to the police, Kwabena Asirifi said he was reporting from the area where some shops had flooded during the Tuesday dawn heavy downpour.
He said all of a sudden, some young men pounced on him and poured some of the dirty water they had cleared from the flood on him.
Asirifi explained that they said he had no right to report from the area and as such his iPhone 11pro mobile was damaged.
This propelled him to top report the case to the Kaneshie Police Command.
Chief Inspector William Boadi of the Command, therefore, confirmed the arrested to Rainbow News.
