Esi Mmaa, mother of the 22-year-old man set ablaze for allegedly stealing a mobile phone has disclosed that they are finding it difficult to mobilize resources to seek medical attention for his son.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the mother said his son who had several burns is in severe pain.
She told host Kwabena Agyapong that the attackers who nearly killed her son demanded Ghc1,000 before they released her son.
The victim, Kojo Ampong, escaped a near-death situation at ‘Wee Ghetto’ a suburb at Enyan Denkyira of the Central Region.
The victim who was alleged to have stolen a phone (yam phone) was reportedly set ablaze by his attackers.
He suffered several burns on his body and has denied stealing the phone as alleged by his attackers.
He was first tied to a plantain tree, beaten before his attackers set him ablaze.
The mother noted that they have so far spent over Ghc2,400 on the victim and still need funds to manage his condition.
Esi Mmaa admitted that there have been several accusations against his son stealing mobile phones.
She recounted an incident where a mobile phone was allegedly stolen and later returned to the owner.
She said so far, six suspects have been arrested with the key suspect still on the run.
