A former National Security Advisor, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has disclosed that all efforts to meet with President Akufo-Addo to discuss a possibility of a coup in Ghana have proved futile.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he revealed that he and one other retired army officer had sought an audience with the President over the current coup in Burkina Faso and Mali and a possible one on Ghana.
According to him, he and one other former officer of the Ghana Armed Forces have seen some indicators that could trigger a coup in Ghana.
But all efforts to dialogue with the President have proved futile.
He warned that Ghana should prepare for what is ahead of the nation because the signs are clear on the streets.
The former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces said Ghana is in danger but our leaders have refused to be on guard and address the hardship Ghanaians were facing.
He said “as a senior retired military officer, I was concerned some months ago. Just last year, myself and a former military officer General Selasi (rtd) tried to see the President and bring these concerns to his hearing. We were concerned. As security persons, we saw what was coming. But we never got the chance to meet the President. Up till now, we’ve not had the opportunity to meet him. I only speak the truth. If we don’t take care, what we fear will happen”.
He further revealed that he first spoke to Kwame Mpiani about the issue but the President was in America by then.
Later he was asked to meet with the National Security Minister, a situation he described as unfortunate.
“I am not lying. I am speaking the truth. I will swear by the Bible if they think we are peddling lies. I am worried about this country. Young men are going mad. Ghana wasn’t like this. Something is going wrong. I am saddened and our youth are angry and could explode,” he warned.
