Coach for Ghana’s rep at Beijing Olympics test positive for Covid-19

The coach coaching Ghana’s representative, Carlos Maeder, Marc Gehrig, at the Beijing Olympics has tested positive for Covid-19.

This was disclosed by Mohammed Baadae Sahnoon – NOC SG and CDM on Rainbow Sports.

Mohammed Baadae Sahnoon was speaking with Rainbow Radio’s Worlanyo Wallace.

He said Ghana’s delegation has arrived safely in Beijing since February 2, 2022, but the coach has tested positive for the virus.

He disclosed that Ghana’s representative is currently training intensively in preparation for the games.

He further revealed that the coach has been replaced with another person to help Ghana’s rep.

The head coach tested positive for covid-19 so he is not with us. But we have engaged the Beijing technical team to substitute one of the technical men who has arrived to support the athlete in Beijing.

The IOC is doing well for the training arrangement of the athlete and hopes to come out victorious.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports recently disclosed that only three persons were approved for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing

The Winter Olympic Games comes off in Beijing this month with Ghana expected to have a participating team at the event.

In a press statement released on Monday, February 1, the Ministry said only three persons have been approved for the Winter Games Beijing 2022.

According to the statement, the ministry will fund the athlete, coach, and leader of the delegation, Bobie Osei who is the Deputy Minister.

Other members will be financed by the International Olympic Committee.

They are Mohammed Baadae Sahnoon – NOC SG and CDM, Farida Ayishatu Iddriss – Accreditation Manager/ Proxy CDM, Abdul Aziz Issah – CLO and Ben Nunoo Mensah – NOC President

Ghana will be represented by Alpine skier, Carlos Maeder.
