Parl resumes today

Parliament will today, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, resume sitting for its second session.

The House had announced it would commence the session on January 18, 2022, but the date was rescheduled.

On December 21, 2021, Parliament adjourned its sitting to January 18, 2022, without passing the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy of 1.75%.

The House chaired by Second Deputy Speaker, Andrews Asiamah was suspended abruptly after a fight broke out during the voting on the e-levy.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, prayed the sit-in Speaker, First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei Owusu, to adjourn the house until January 18, 2022, for cooler heads to prevail.

The First Deputy Speaker had decided to take leave of the Speaker’s chair for the Second Deputy Speaker to take charge to enable him to participate in voting following disagreements from the Minority.

Several MPs exchanged blows flowing the chaos.

Clam later returned to the house following which the Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah, adjourned the sitting.
