Parl mourns late Mfantseman MP, describe his death as pure evil
Parliamentarians have expressed their sadness following the murder of the Mfantseman MP Mr Ekow Quansah.
The NPP MP for Trobu constituency Moses Anim extended condolence to the bereaved family and described the incident as pure evil.
He said the police must find the killers and deal with ruthlessly.
He underscored the need for the security agencies to work effortlessly to provide safety and security to Ghanaians.
He renewed debate for MPs to be provided, with security.
He said Ghanaians should not see this as outrageous, because MPs could be targeted, by evil minds.
On his part, Ras Mubarak, the NDC MP for Kumbungu described the late MP as a decent politician and a responsible personality.
To him today is a ”black Friday” for Ghanaians and parliament as an institution.
Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga also extended his condolence to the bereaved family.
He described the incident as ”very worrying, frightening, and shocking”.
He admonished the police to enhance security around this time, identify flash-points and deal with any form of threats.
Mr. Ayeh Paye, the Ayensuano MP said the incident has created fear and panic especially for MPs who are campaigning deep into the night.
He asked the government to provide security for MPs without security.
He said if the number of police officers is inadequate to provide security for MPs, Ghana can adopt the UK’s approach where fire service personnel are allowed to protect Queen Elizabeth.
He recounted how the late JB Danquah Adu was murdered in his private residence some years ago.
Meanwhile, the IGP, James Oppong-Boanuh has placed GHc20,000 bounty on those who killed the MP.
This was contained in a statement issued by the police administration.
“The IGP is offering a reward of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (20,000.00) to any person who gives credible information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators,” a police statement said.
“The Police Administration commiserates with Ghanaians, particularly family members and constituents of Hon. Ekow Quansah, while urging the general public to remain calm and support the Police in the investigation of this case,” the statement added.
