ASEPA demands copy of report on Jean Mensa’s impeachment proceedings

Think-tank, Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has requested for a copy of the report on the petition to remove Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensah from office.

In a statemnt ASEPA issued today, Monday, October 5, 2020, it said the report from the imnpeachment proceedings was not attached to the response they received following the petitition they sent to the Presiency.

“In a response to ASEPA dated August 18, 2020, admitted that he acted upon ou petition which was referred to his outfit in accordance with article 146 and a report delivered to the Presidency on July 15, 2020,” the statement said.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in August this year dismissed a petition to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs Jean Mensa following a determination of no adverse evidence of a legal breach by the EC boss.

ASEPA had petitioned the President to remove Mrs Jean Mensa from office on the grounds that she failed to declare her assets on time on assumption of office in 2018.

The petition was then forwarded to the Chief Justice for action, the Chief Justice did not establish any adverse evidence of a legal breach against the EC boss.

It was based on this that the presidency responded to ASEPA saying the EC boss could not be removed.

But ASEPA said it did not get a copy of the report and will be glad to receive a copy.
