Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has announced the appointment of a new Director General of Education who will focus on vocational and technical education.
The minister says the plans were well-advanced to ensure that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) was well managed.
According to the Senior Minister, the move forms part of government’s plans to use technical and vocational education as a tool to reduce the alarming unemployment rate in the country.
Speaking at the 60th Anniversary Celebration of the of the St Paul’s Technical School at Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region, he said when appointed, the new Director General will work alongside the current GES boss, Professor Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa.
“We are going to have two Director-Generals; one specifically for TVET services and one for normal education services. So all matters related to technical vocational education will be handled under the Director-General for TVET services,” he said.
He added, ‘’This move is envisioned to shift the emphasis of education from the grammar system to vocational education.
“We want to shift the emphasis to technical and vocational education. That clear absence of that technical concept within the administration of education has cost us a lot because everybody is emphasizing grammar education because that is what we have emphasized in our structure.”
“We want a Director General for Technical Education Services so that the emphasis is there in the structure of the education and all TVET will work to its Director General.’’
Hiplife artiste Tic Tac has justified why he walked out of the studios of GHOne TV during a live interview.
The artiste staged a walk out after the station played a video of Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
However, explaining to Agyemang Prempeh on GH Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Tic Tac said he walked out due to the respect he had for the TV station, the host Baisiwa Dowuona Hammond and his brand.
The artiste said he agreed with the station that they should play only his new videos however; they rather played his old videos despite assurances given him.
And as if that was not enough, they played Shatta Wale’s video when I was not there to promote his songs. I went there to promote my new videos which I have dedicated to my mum Ama Grace.
He said he could watch an artiste who disrespected his brand to use that same brand to soar.
To him, walking out was the best option because if he had stayed, he would have misbehaved and that would have also affected his brand as an artiste.
‘’The topic was not about Shatta Wale, the topic was about Tic Tac. Someone had said something about me and I was explaining and I see no reason why in the background, whiles I was there and answering a question the host asked me; I would not have answered the question but due to the respect I had for the host, I decided to answer. It was out of respect I had for the host that’s why I answered. I know her to be a professional presenter and out of that respect, I decided to answer but when I realized they were showing his video and not mine, I had to walk out because I did not come there to promote another artiste. I am not his PRO. And so for the respect I had for my brand and GHOne TV, I walked out. As a noble man, I knew the best thing was to walk out. That was what came into my mind. It was a statement for my brand,’’ he added.
