The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin has debunked rumours that the Central Regional Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Allotey Jacobs has been arrested in the UK on suspected money laundering and cocaine trafficking.
Social media was awash with reports of Allotey Jacobs busted at the Heathrow Airport on Sunday by the UK National Crime Agency.
But the British High Commissioner on his twitter page said “the story is not true.” “I can confirm that the rumour about Mr. Jacobs is definitely not true…Mr. Allotey Jacobs transited Heathrow this morning without incident,” he added.
Meanwhile a group calling itself, Tax Payers League Gh have chided Jon Benjamin, accusing him of covering up corruption claiming that some 4 policemen escorted Allotey Jacobs from his aircraft.
But Jon Benjamin has also dared that to substantiate the claims and allegations.
Meanwhile, his aide Nurudeen Essah in an interview with Nyankonton Mu Nsem said, Mr Allotey Jacobs was in the United States, rather than the UK, as a member of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) delegation attending an oil and gas conference in that country.
“He does not even smoke, let alone sniff any drug. Mr. Allotey Jacobs also avoids the company of persons who smoke or deal in drugs. All his life is about God; it is God who has brought him this far.”
He urged persons propagating such information on social media to dump such reports in a “giant Zoomlion dustbin”.
He said his boss will soon respond to the allegations at the right time.
