The woes of the Atebubu Member of Parliament (MP) in the Brong Ahafo Region, Hon. Sanja Nanja is far from over as the queen mother of the Traditional Area, Nana Afia Donyina II has sued him for defamation.
The suit was filed at the Wenchi High Court on Thursday April, 27, 2016.
The queen mother is praying the court to award damages against the defendant in the sum of GHc500,000.
The decision according to a statement signed by Kofi Amofa, Secretary to the queen mother was because the ‘’abusive words used by the MP has provoked public disaffection for her and has also exposed her to public ridicule and contempt.”
The legislator was recently banned from campaigning, attending any social event or funeral organized within the Amantin Traditional Area.
The decision was taken because the MP allegedly subjected their queen mother, Nana Afia Donyina II to public ridicule.
The embattled MP has subsequently rendered an unqualified apology to the Atebubu Traditional Council for branding their queen mother as a drunkard.
He explained that, the unfortunate comments were borne out of anger following the removal of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area, Mr. Sampson Owusu Boateng, which ignited clashes from supporters of the MP and the DCE.
However his apology was not taken as some elders led by the chief of area, slaughtered a sheep to formally inform the gods of the incident some few weeks ago.
The queen mother is also praying to court to restrain the defendant from writing, printing and publishing further words and defamatory statements against her.
