The Waste Management Director for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Tony Mensah says the assembly lacks the resources to cart waste from the city hence the huge filth we see all over.
He was speaking to Kwame Tutu on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.
He agreed that the filth that has engulfed the city is high and attributed it to the increase in activities due to the festive season.
He said the AMA although has intensified its work, it is under resourced.
He was however, quick to add that the AMA is working closely with government to address the situation.
The assembly also lack access to a landfill site but we have partnered a private firm to get a landfill site at Nsawam, he said.
Mr. Mensah also added that, the AMA is in the process of procuring more trucks to manage waste in the Central Business District and other adjoining areas where waste is generated.
The AMA has also intensified our night operations to help collect waste within the ten sub-metros under our jurisdiction.
