The Central Regional Police Commander, COP Rev. David Nenyi Ampa-Benyin, has alluded to the fact that, the increasing number of land guards in Kasoa, is a major challenge for the police under his command.
Speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Agyekum Banahene, he said the command has received numerous complaints from residents over the criminal activities of these land guards.
According to him, the command divided Kasoa into five zones headed by top police officers and the duty of these patrol teams, is to maintain law and order in the Kasoa municipality.
COP Benyin indicated that the command is working under ‘Operation Hit Hard’ which was recently launched, to apprehend all criminals in the area.
Another challenge he highlighted was the issue of illegal miners popularly referred to as galamseyers at Dunkwa-Offin.
He revealed, through the ‘Operation Hit Hard’, some land guards were arrested and after thorough investigation, it was established that some of them were on police wanted list.
The police will continue to swoop on these criminals and ensure that they are punished, he assured.
Nineteen armed robbers he added have been arrested since he took over as commander in the Central region.
He admonished residents to form neigbourhood watch dogs to compliment the efforts of the police in reducing crime in the country.
