Sensels School has rounded-up its 20th anniversary celebration under the theme’ ‘’ 20 Years of Quality Childcare; Enroute to a Perfect Future.’’
The school which started with about only six (6) students in 1997 today has over four hundred (400) students.
Guest speaker at the ceremony, Mrs. Ewurabena Ahoi underscored the need for children to be taking through character formation as part of teaching and learning.
The role of social media today, she stated cannot be underestimated hence the need for children to be monitored and guided on what they read and post on social media.
Children she indicated must also be thought to eschew evil, love learning and also be guided to identify the skills and talents given them.
Children should also be guided to gain self knowledge through the application of critical thinking, Mrs. Ahwoi said.
Parents should also communicate well with their children especially in the mother tongue so they will not lose the essence of our culture and language, she stressed.
She further admonished parents to desist from investing in material things and rather invest in educating their wards.
Mrs. Ahoi emphasized the need for children to have a strong foundation at the basic level.
On her part, the proprietress of the school, Rev. Dr. Abena Tay, said it is an easy thing to be dealing with human beings especially when they come from different backgrounds.
She said, since it is the formative years of children at the basic level, it will be important to introduce them to a concept that will be acceptable by all.
The school she said, does not apply only teaching and learning in the classroom but applies social and moral behaviour and the godly teachings.
''The first years of the child are the formative years and psychologists have said that at that time, the personality of the children develops and when you fail to develop them, you will not have responsible future leaders.
She said, we need to bring up future leaders who are men and women of integrity, responsible, God fearing and when you have such people in Ghana, it tells a lot on all aspect of national life.
Some long serving staff of the school and deserving students were also rewarded for their dedicated service and academic performance respectively.
A thanksgiving was also held on Sunday to climax the celebration.
