Written by  Oct 24, 2017
The National School Feeding Programme is set to expand its operation to cover more beneficiaries. Spokesperson for the programme, Siiba Alfa in an interview with Rainbow Radio said, currently over 1.7 million children are benefiting from the policy. The number he indicated would be expanded to cover more children.   Government has released   GHc 21 million to cater for part of the debt it owes caterers under the school feeding programme.   According to him, efforts are being made to make another disbursement next week, to cover an additional sixteen days of the remaining hundred days’ arrears. He said the money, which was released last week, will cover the first seven days for the first term of the 2016/2017 academic year.   In all, the programme has advanced more than 100 days of feeding grants to caterers so far in 2017, which amounts to GHc 140 million. A release to pay for some number of days would also be released, he said. When asked about the one who prepares the menu for the caterers he said, the menu is drafted according to the district potentials in terms of foodstuffs.
