Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper has reaffirmed the decision of government to ensure fiscal discipline in the 2016 general electioneering year.
He said, the 2016 fiscal year is very significant since the country will be going through a presidential and parliamentary elections
In his opening address to parliament on the 2016 budget statement, Mr. Seth Tekper said ‘’let there be no doubt, the economy benefits especially from our peace and acclaimed elections year. Despite being an election year, let me reiterate President Mahama’s assurance of sustaining fiscal discipline whist investing in infrastructure and socially development.’’
He further added that government will not be tempted to over spend in the election year.
He stressed ‘’we [government] will resist the temptation of election year overspending.’’
The Finance Minister Mr. Seth Terkper, however said government will resource the Electoral Commission and any institutions to ensure a transparent, credible and accountable elections in 2016.
